side.gif (7382 bytes)Shrub Roses are a mixed class.  Lately, they have included everything that isn't a Hybrid Tea, a Floribunda, or a Climbing Rose.  In other words, they are true landscape roses.

Technically, all roses are shrubs.  It is just that some are more shrubby than others.  Hybrid Teas are raised predominantly for their flowers.   In other words, they are bedding plants or cutting plants.  Shrub Roses on the other hand, can be just as beautiful, but their major mission is as landscape plants in the garden.

Classifications can be somewhat ambiguous, and the Shrub Class is a source of confusion for many people.  Be satisfied that these roses are beautiful and deserve a place in almost all gardens.
