The very double, quartered blooms of Charles de Milles are a perfect example of the extreme petal counts that can be found in some of the old roses. There are so many petals that even when fully opened; the petals are twisted together so that the flower almost resembles a sliced head of cabbage. The bush is not as shrub like as some of the later Gallicas. We rarely see any disease on Charles de Milles. Winter hardiness is excellent.
